Originally, in the 1950’s this Insula was numbered as Reg. I, Insula 19.
The neighbouring Insula, now numbered as I.23, was originally numbered as I.21.

According to Wilhelmina, by 1964 most of the lapilli had been removed by the original excavators (1959-60).
As this had been the last insula excavated, it had not been possible to excavate it completely to the west wall, due to the pressure of soil from the other side.
Even so, she was still able to find about 150 tree-root cavities in the part of the area that they could search through (approximately 50% of it).
This was to be the first large orchard found within the city itself.
